Sustainable Coffee
Here at Nobletree, we pride ourselves on producing world-class specialty coffee. But a lot goes into producing these high-quality roasts. At Nobletree, we care about the environment and employ sustainable growing practices to support our farmers’ communities and the biodiversity of the rainforests in Brazil. Continue reading to learn more about our dedication to the environment, our producers, and sustainable coffee.
Environmentally Sustainable Coffee
We practice sustainable soil management on our Nobletree farms by employing coffee tree terracing. Terrace farming is a method of converting originally un-farmable hillsides into stable farmland. Terracing is accomplished by creating steps in the hillside with a specific outlet for water to train from one terrace to the next. Each lower terrace slows the speed of rainwater runoff water, helping to prevent erosion and mudslides. We are also dedicated to the propagation of indigenous trees and flora. We have 200 hectares of preserved flora and fauna on our Monte Verde Farm and are proud to be Rain Forest Alliance Certified.

Rainforest Alliance Certified
Both Nobletree farms, Monte Verde and Santa Izabel are Rainforest certified. This means that our coffee is certified to have been produced using methods that support social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Certification requires an evaluation of continuous improvement, sustainability training, and clear benefits for farmers by independent auditors. During the assessment, these auditors are looking at the impact on forests, the climate, human rights, and farmers’ livelihoods and communities.
Forests
Rainforest Alliance programs promote best practices for fostering the health of trees, soil, streams, and rivers. The Santa Izabel farm is one of the first in Brazil to employ terracing techniques for mountain coffee production, which aids in the prevention of erosion.
Human Rights
Rainforest Certification ensures that there are better working conditions and labor practices in place to protect the rights of the workers.

Climate
We promote responsible land management and promoting the native flora. At our Santa Izabel farm, you can see an amazing diversity of bird species, including an endangered yellow canary bred on the farm to help re-establish the species in the region. At Monte Verde, a pack of endangered wolves hunt in the pasture. The farm has also incorporated numerous modern practices, such as satellite-guided precision agriculture.
Farmers Livelihoods
Improving the opportunities for small and medium-sized farms to produce and sell their coffees at a fair wage is a focus. By improving the well-being of the community, the overall ecosystem will improve. The Nobletree Neighbors and Friends program is dedicated to doing just that.
Fair Trade Coffee
In addition to our focus on the environment, we are committed to the betterment of our farmers by ensuring fair labor practices and worker rights. Fair Trade assures a minimum wage to coffee producers. Learn more about Nobletree Fair Trade Coffee.
A Commitment to Our Farmers
Part of what makes Nobletree so great is the dedication of our farm staff. Much of the team at our Monte Verde farm in Carmo De Minas Gerais have worked at the farm for many years.

Apart from our commitment to delivering you exceptional, sustainable coffee, we support numerous social programs aimed at protecting and enriching the lives of our coffee producers and their communities. We do this through the Neighbors and Friends program. The neighbors and friends program is a collaborative partnership between Nobletree Coffee and the coffee producers in the Mogiana Region of Espirito Santo Do Pinhal and the Sul De Minas Region or Ouro Fino in Brazil. We promote the advancement of small and medium producers by holding field days and specific training sessions focused on specialty coffees, including drying methods, coffee cupping, and sales. We also support the direct community of our farms by investing in their local ecosystem. Some examples of recent improvements include:
- Installing new septic systems in the homes on the farm
- Refurbishing a local soccer field
- The Installation of solar water heaters
- New native trees planted
