Sumatran coffees are known for their uniquely earthy and herbaceous flavor profiles. The region’s traditional giling basah (wet-hulled) processing method is partly responsible for these intense flavors. Our Mutu Batak is a beautiful example of a Sumatran coffee, boasting classic notes of fresh herbs, earth and spice. It is complimented by a complex and vibrant acidity rounded out by a big, sweet, full body.
Mutu Batak is produced by numerous small producers (two to four hectare plantations) near the southern shores of Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world. The volcanic soil in this area provides exceptional terrain for growing coffee.
